Who is an Estate Surveyor and Valuer, and how do you verify their membership and firm registration status?



An Estate Surveyor and Valuer in Nigeria is a licensed professional registered by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) to value, manage, and sell landed properties. Unlike estate agents, they hold formal education in Estate Management, have completed mandatory training, and are authorized by ESVARBON to use an official seal on valuation reports.


How to Verify an Estate Surveyor and Valuer:

1. Check ESVARBON License: A registered professional must hold a current, active license from ESVARBON. Membership is often indicated by the suffix "RSV" (Registered Estate Surveyor and Valuer). Verify at https://www.esvarbon.gov.ng/

2. Verify NIESV Membership: They are members of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), often indicated by the prefix "ESV" or the suffix "MNIVS" for Corporate Members or "FNIVS" for Fellows. Check the up-to-date financial members list at https://www.niesv.org.ng/financial_list.php

3. Official Stamp and Seal: A true Estate Surveyor and Valuer authenticates all official valuation reports with a numbered stamp and seal issued by ESVARBON. Registered firms also have an annual Firm Compliance Certificate with a firm registration number in the format "F0000".
